Often, our clients come to us perplexed in body, mind and spirit. We need to stabilise them before treating them for trauma.

More About Stabilisation Therapy
Drawing from the work of Pierre Janet and Babette Rothschild, Stabilisation Based Therapy (SBT) was developed from the doctoral research and clinical experience of Dr. Peter King. This highly effective approach explores specific interventions and clinician qualities and attributes needed for helping individuals with extreme emotion dysregulation. As a phase-based treatment model, it is informed by in session targets, offering a safe and consistent recovery approach for individual needs of clients experiencing PTSD, Complex PTSD, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Acute Stress Reactions.
Stabilisation Based Therapy is an integrative framework with elements of Somatic Trauma Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Mindfulness, forming an dynamic eclectic treatment methodology.
Stabilisation Based Therapy focuses on client resource identification. Specific resources and skills can be taught in either a group or in individual therapy settings dependent on the diagnostic category of the individual as well as the cognitive capabilities and current phase of treatment. During individual therapy in SBT, individuals are taught to monitor their own symptoms and identify personal resources, while progress is tracked through targeting behaviors and resource integration.
Individual Resources are identified, strengthened and integrated all informing the SBT approach. Working alongside mental health professionals, the individual identifies resources most likely to be of value during times where safety and stabilisation are of paramount importance. Skills are practiced and refined in session before being integrated into opportunities for practice outside of therapy using a graded approach. Skills used are then reviewed and strengthened in proceeding sessions to ensure ease of access and use during future times of distress or need.
